Mother Nature and Sustainable Furniture•
Posted on September 14 2020
"Right now, Mother Nature is telling us to go to our room and stay there." I heard that from Genevieve Gorder while watching a live IG with Whitney Robinson (whowhatwit) and it stuck with me. Also, looking back and seeing what happened with the devastation from the Southern California and Australia fires, Mother Nature is telling us that we have a problem, and we need to wake up and do something about it.
The responsibility can be overwhelming. But start small. First of all, if you haven't already watched it, please check out Down to Earth with Zac Efron and Darin Olien. They tour the world and show us ways to live healthier and more sustainably. Being a sustainable designer for over a decade, it was one of the most remarkable and educational series I've watched. It's available on Netflix.
In the design world, sustainability is an ethical component in designing houses from materials to purchases. And as society gravitates towards more eco-friendly lifestyles, people are more ecologically conscious and knowledgeable than ever before.
There are many artisans out there who we will highlight over the years, but this is a company to follow. They have the knowledge and education to apply sustainable living to design and everyday life.

"All of Indo Teak Designs material are FSC Recycled 100%. The FSC holds its reputation with the most credible forest certification so as to ensure the grade and authenticity of production. Because we recycle this historic teak, the wood has a unique and luxurious grain pattern and size that is incomparable to farmed teak. Safe to say, with a resource like this, we want to handle it with great care and respect."
Sustainable design purchasing is one of the reasons we started Shop JM Home. We want to help people apply sustainable design and practices to your home and your life, and feel good about making a purchase.
